News and Views

Vale Kerrie Ellis

One of our Life Members, Kerrie Ellis passed away on Easter Monday and she will be sadly missed by her husband Steve and sons Nathan and Bryce and her numerous friends.

Kerrie has been involved with Maroubra Swimming Club for many, many years with both Nathan and Bryce training at the facility and members of our club. Kerrie gave up a lot of her time for not only Maroubra Swimming Club but also RSL Swimming (local and State) and many of the local schools throughout the summer months.

Swimming in Kula Lumpur

29 swimmers who go to the French high school (Lycee Condorcet) at Maroubra Junction travelled to the French School at Kuala Lumpur for the 1st French School Asia-Pacific Swimming Championship held from Thursday 28th to Sunday 31st March 2013. All swimmers belong to the Maroubra Swimming Club from our  partnership that we entered 3 year ago already !

Some interesting facts from the first swimming championship at KL:-

- 4 days of competition for the 12 French schools in the Asia / Pacific presents: Vientiane, Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City, Hong Kong, Phnom Penh, Shanghai, Sydney, Seoul, Manila, Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur course, without forgetting Abu Dhabi our special guest.

- 2 days of heats and 2 days for the finals.

- 300 swimmers from 32 countries, girls and boys, educated in the French system, classes

- 20 medals for the Lycee Condorcet at NMaroubra Junction, including 8 gold medals and numerous chocolate medals (4th place!)

The first championship also produced much cries and tears, joy and sadness. Unforgettable memories and links between the various teams of swimmers. The host families were very happy to have shared this moment with the children.

Some students have shown:

- Bryan Y11, who won three gold medals and one silver in individual evenst

- Luca 6th, who faced swimmers much older than himself, and won a great silver medal

- Relays exceptional, especially the U14 girls (4x50 Gold NL and 4x50N Amélie, Mahaut, Clarisse and Alison) and O15 boys (Bryan, Elliot, Jules and Quentin)

- The personal bests beaten see sprayed with the adrenaline of competition.

Congratulations to all swimmers who participated in this competition, there is no doubt that the trainings in Elite sports section trained by Gino (DRAC Coach), development squad trained par Pascal (PDHPE teacher) and the Talent Identification programme trained by also Pascal will be more than ever have greater harvest of medals next year!

You can find the results here as the French Swimming Federation was a partnership for this event: http://www.liveffn.com/cgi-bin/index.php?competition=7306&langue=gbr

The school project to have the second edition at Maroubra ! The school needs all your support and sponsorships
