Maroubra is a competitive swimming club - with many great successes both past and present.  Maroubra competes at a many carnivals during the year.

What to do when attending a meet:

Here is a summary of what our members should do when representing Maroubra Swimming Club:

Wear the club uniform (Maroubra cossies, swim cap and either a T-shirt, fleece or track suit jacket with the club's logo) for all away swim meets

  1. Gather around our “Maroubra” banner

  2. All swimmers sit together during the meet.

  3. Cheer for team-mates when they're swimming

  4. Always speak with the DRAC coach before and after you swim (if they are in attendance at the meet)

  5. Respect all other competitors

  6. And most importantly - Enjoy the meet!

Our Club adheres to the member protection policy issued by Australian Swimming Inc.

Meets Maroubra attends

Interclub:  conducted by other swim clubs. These meets are usually open to all swimmers and do not have qualifying times.  Watch the Maroubra noticeboard, web and newsletter for carnivals our Race Secretary has selected.

Metro South East Carnivals:  Maroubra is a member of the Metropolitan South East Area (MetSEA) and our swimmers can compete at Summer and Winter Championships.

Swimming NSW Development Carnival: Each year, the MetSEA runs a development camp in which a number of swimmers from each member club are selected to participate.  The culmination of the camp - where new skills and techniques are developed, is that the whole squad competes at a Swimming NSW Carnival at SOPAC.  This carnival is only open to Development Squad participants.

Maroubra Development Carnival:  Our very own carnival!  Maroubra runs this highly successful interclub carnival in May of each year.  The carnival is open to all swimmers and is very well attended.  Last carnival, we had 259 swimmers from 26 Clubs attended our meet.  We host the meet at our home pool, the DRAC and all Maroubra swimmers are expected to attend.  More information here.

Maroubra Club Championships: This carnival is only open to members of Maroubra and is the highlight of Maroubra's swimming calendar.  All Maroubra swimmers are eligible to compete but only those swimmers who have attended and swum at 15 Club nights during the swimming year (October - September) are eligible to win trophies and prizes.  More on our championships.

Speedo Sprint:  this annual carnival is run on behalf of Swimming NSW for the MetSEA. All events are 50 metres and are open to 8-13 year olds. This carnival is usually held in February.  Swimmers who finish first and second in their event will proceed to the Speedo Sprint finals (where finalists from each Speedo Sprint District will attend).  The finals are held in March at SOPAC.

Metropolitan and State Age Championships:  Metropolitan and State Age Championships are run each season (one each in summer and winter) and conducted by Swimming NSW at SOPAC.  Qualifying times are required for a swimmer to be eligible to compete at either Metrops and State.  Maroubra runs time trials close to these events to ensure all our swimmers have every opportunity to make the qualifying times.

State Open: Conducted by Swimming NSW at SOPAC in April each year. Events are all long course and are swum in age categories from 13 years & under through to 18 years.  Qualifying times are required for a swimmer to be eligible to compete.

Members representing Maroubra at these competitions are required to wear the Maroubra Swimming Club cap.  Its also great to have swimmers support their Club by wearing other striking club clothing – swimmers, shirts, polar fleeces and swim coats.

All the above meets are run by SNSW technical officials, which ensures all times are official.
